This two-lane, 32.2-mile (51.8 km) mostly rural, state-designated scenic byway traversed ME 113 from Standish to Fryeburg. Its northern end paralleled the Mountain Division Rail Trail and Saco River. It had no turnouts or vista points or historical markers, but it did have one southbound rest area. It also passed near the Hiram Rail Museum and the Fryeburg Museum. North of Fryeburg, another far more scenic stretch of ME 113 – curiously not designated as a Maine scenic byway – led 37.1 miles (59.7 km) farther through the White Mountain National Forest via the 1,410-foot (429.7 m) elevation of Evans Notch and its scenic overlooks and onward to US 2 at Gilead. For the designated scenic byway itself, we most appreciated the occasional views of
rural landscapes and distant mountains. We disliked only the absence of turnouts and interpretive displays.
